Meet Lucy: The Heart Behind Lulu Boutique

Hello, I’m Lucy – founder of Lulu Boutique, an independent image consultant based in Berkshire. I help women rediscover their confidence through colour analysis, body shape guidance, and style personality. My approach is all about making style simple, joyful, and truly personal.

who am i?

As the youngest of four girls, I’ve always loved style and the way the right outfit can completely transform how you feel. There is a 17 year age gap between me and my eldest sister, Alicia. We only lived together until I was 7, when my parents moved from Essex to Reading and Alicia stayed in Essex. My early memories of Essex are all about trying on my big sisters stilettos. lipsticks and bra’s and walking up and down the cul-de-sac with absolute delight! Until she got home from her City job furious with me... no wonder she stayed in Essex!

But beyond an early love of stilettos and lipstick, I also have 20 years experience working as an NHS nurse. It might sound like a big leap from nursing to image consultancy, but really, the heart of both careers is the same: helping people.

My nursing background means I really understand people and emotions, I know how to read body language and I know how to help when you are not at your best. I’ve worked with women at every stage of life, and I know that a kind, non-judgemental approach is more valuable than any amount of fashion training.

Why I became an Image Consultant

The truth is, I didn’t just stumble into image consultancy because I liked clothes. My journey here is much more personal.

In my late 30s, I went through some really difficult times. After unsuccessful IVF and going through a painful divorce, I found myself living alone for the first time — in perfect timing to experience a global pandemic. I felt completely lost. I didn’t know who I was anymore, and certainly didn’t recognise the woman staring back at me in the mirror. No longer smiling and laughing, just very sad and unsure.

Infertility, is a grief like no other. It completely changes your sense of identity in a way that you cannot prepare for. As a Health Visitor, I often saw the same loss of identity in women as they transition to motherhood.

Once the restrictions of the pandemic ended, a friend introduced me to colour analysis. I still remember the moment I saw myself in my winter colours for the first time — it was like I’d found me again. That spark of confidence and joy was something I hadn’t felt for a long time.

That was over four years ago. And when I turned 40 last year, I knew I wanted something different for my life. I wanted to combine my passion of helping people with this incredible passion for style. That’s when I decided to retrain and become an image consultant.

Image Consultant vs Personal Stylist – What’s the Difference?

Both terms are used frequently and it is easy to confuse the two, but here’s how I explain it:

  • Personal stylists usually focus on trends, shopping trips, and putting outfits together.

  • Image consultants go deeper. I look at your natural colouring, body shape, and personality in a truly holistic way so you can build a wardrobe that works for you long-term, not just for one season.

Think of it like this: a stylist gives you an outfit, but an image consultant will teach you how to find your own perfect outfit every time.

why pick me?

There are plenty of image consultants out there, so why choose me?

  • I bring 20 years’ experience as a nurse. This may not seem to matter but trust me, it does. I have supported people through difficult times all of my adult life. I don’t just see your clothes and the trends– I see you.

  • I combine professional image training with a genuine understanding of how confidence, identity, and self-esteem work.

  • My focus isn’t on fashion “rules” – it’s on helping you feel comfortable, confident, and authentically stylish.

  • I not only completed in person training but I went on to complete advanced training. I have sourced all of my tools purposefully and globally, to give you the best experience.

  • I am gloriously independent, no corporate head of service telling me what to charge or how much to sell. This is important as you know that my advice is non biased.

  • Included in your appointment is not only the chance to try high end make up brands like Charlotte Tilbury and Laura Mercier but you also get a swatch book, email follow up and access to a private Facebook group. No other Image Consultant in Berkshire offers this level of service.
