Finding My Purpose in Colour: Why I Created a New Kind of Colour Analysis Training

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to helping people feel confident, seen, and fully themselves. I have spent 20 years in the NHS as a nurse; leading, teaching and mentoring, and I loved every moment of supporting others to grow.

But when I discovered colour analysis, something clicked in a way I had never experienced before. I knew instantly: this is where all my skills come together. This is where I’m meant to be.

When I launched my business I aimed for one client a month and, to my surprise, I had 11 bookings in the first month. Since then, my journey has taken me from working on luxury midlife women’s retreats in Ibiza, to delivering events for TikTok, Ikea, The Hyatt, and The One to One Diet Company, and collaborating with incredible local businesses.

I’d just moved my services to a beautiful high‑street studio space within the lovely Feather and Sole Boutique in Wokingham and I felt like everything was aligning.

But I still wasn’t planning to launch my own training school. Not yet.

And then life stepped in.

Within one week, three different people asked if I would train them in colour analysis. At the same time, my husband Kevin was made redundant. It felt like the universe was holding up a giant flashing sign saying: Lucy, it’s time.

So I listened.

A Hard Lesson - and a Turning Point

I’d trained with two different colour analysis companies. I felt deeply connected to one Academy; I admired them, trusted them, and genuinely believed we were friends. I had trained less with the other, but always felt welcomed by them.

When I shared that I was launching my own training academy, the reactions couldn’t have been more different.

The company I thought were friends were not supportive. They made it clear they didn't trust me and didn’t want to maintain a relationship if I pursued my own path. It was painful, truly painful, to realise that the people I had admired didn’t want to see me grow.

The other company? They were on the phone immediately. “How can we help? How can we support you? How can we work together?” Their generosity and encouragement reminded me that sometimes life reveals exactly who deserves your energy.

I stepped away from the first company with a sad heart, but also with clarity. I knew who I wanted to align with, and I knew I had something powerful to build.

Building the Colour Analysis Course I Wish I’d Had

I won’t sugarcoat it: I worked seven days a week. I took one day off – Christmas Day. I poured everything I had into creating a course that was thorough, supportive, practical, and transformative.

The result?

  • Five modules of pre‑course learning

  • A 100‑page training manual

  • A fully immersive, hands‑on training experience

  • A course built entirely around the 16‑subseason system - not a one‑hour overview

  • Live models to practise on

  • A professional makeup artist teaching makeup

  • A marketing expert delivering a two‑hour workshop

  • A half‑day 1:1 mentoring session with me

  • Your first paying client - sourced by me if you come to my studio

  • All delivered on weekends to make starting a business alongside another career, a real possibility

My vision was simple: To create confident, skilled, high‑quality colour analysts who can walk out of training and start working immediately.

And that’s exactly what’s happening.

Within three weeks of my last course:

  • Students had paying clients booked

  • One had already delivered a London‑based colour event

  • Websites were being built

  • Branding was underway

  • Momentum was real

And the feedback… well, it speaks for itself.

What My Students Say

Ellie

Lucy came highly recommended to me, and it was obvious from our brief intro chat why! Lucy is warm, approachable, supportive, knowledgeable and clearly very dedicated to her clients and her students.

I booked with Lucy because of this, but also the face‑to‑face nature of the course, which really helped the students to bond and support each other. The content was well paced and covered all bases. Not only did we learn the 16 subseasons, but also makeup application, advice, and marketing.

I also benefited greatly from the 1‑2‑1 mentor day with Lucy, which has really helped me turn my business dream into something I believe I can make into a reality.

Lucy is honest about the challenges and pitfalls of this industry, and is so open in sharing her own experiences and learning. I feel 10 steps ahead already in starting my own business!

If you are unsure where to train to become a colour analyst I would highly recommend Lulu Boutique — the quality of learning and support is really incredible.

The thing that struck me — and the main reason I chose to study with Lucy — was the holistic approach. We covered everything: insurance, marketing, as well as colour analysis. I finished the course feeling fully prepared to launch my own business.

Support was provided throughout the whole course and ever since too. Lucy genuinely wants to see you succeed and continues to cheerlead for her students even after the course is finished.

Highly recommend!

Dani

I researched other colour training and what brought me back to Lucy was several things: I’ve seen how her business has grown from day one, I’d met her and followed her on socials and felt I knew her and trusted she would deliver what she promised. I liked the in‑person training, the small group size, and the fact we all bonded — we even became friends!

The training location was easy to get to, easy to park, and the facilities were great (being gluten and lactose free wasn’t a problem). I loved that her training included 1:1 mentoring and business skills — nobody else offered this. I liked that Lucy brought in other experts like a professional makeup artist and marketing expert. I felt like I was getting the best of the best.

Communication throughout was amazing, and when I felt stuck or unsure, Lucy spent time making sure I understood.

I have now completed the course and I feel excited and prepared to start my own business. I personally love that Lucy helped our group cultivate a mentality of being there for one another, celebrating each other’s success and collaborating. I highly recommend this training.

Having trained in Colour Analysis with Lucy Putney of Lulu Boutique, I can highly recommend her course. I signed up with Lucy based on a recommendation. I had no idea what to expect but was agreeably surprised and delighted by Lucy's depth of knowledge, hands‑on practical advice and unfailing support throughout the programme. I now feel inspired and empowered to start my own colour analysis business.

Why My Colour Analysis Training Is Different

I get so many messages from stylists who trained in one‑day colour courses and now feel stuck. They don’t know how to put it into practice. They don’t feel confident. They don’t feel supported.

My training is built to solve that.

It’s immersive. It’s practical. It’s honest. It’s rooted in real‑world experience. And it’s designed to give you everything you need to start working straight away.

Because I don’t just want to teach colour analysis. I want to build a community of confident, skilled, and ethical colour analysts who deliver exceptional experiences across the country.
